Are robins protected in the state of Kansas?

We have a tree next to our house that's going to be torn down soon (much to my dismay). There's a robin nesting in one of the forks of the tree, and my mother, her boyfriend and I are concerned about the mother and babies' welfare. Also, robins are a type of songbird, if that makes any difference.
